ADS Newsletter November 1,2024
Hello Acton Families:
This week’s Awards Night was a celebration of student excellence in achievement. Congratulations to all student award-winners and thank you parents for your ongoing support of your student and staff for always being there to go that extra mile. You were all up there on stage in the moment.
We also celebrated Diwali and Halloween this week. We welcome diversity in our school and learn about many other cultures while having tons of fun. The elementary students had a day filled with student-designed and created activities and lots of dancing. I love student imagination this time if year.
⬅️I really feel this should become our new office staff uniform. What do you think?
Here is a quick reminder of our upcoming Mega Craft Sale organized by our DECA (Entrpreneurial Leadership) Team on Saturday November 23rd. Come and see student craftsmanship as well as local vendors!

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, when the clock will “fall back” one hour and, in theory, give us one extra hour of sleep!
Parents and Students please take note that our Cafeteria Servery will be closed until November 11th-due to a shortage of staffing. Please make sure students come to school with what they need for day during this closure.
Discover the exciting opportunities available for incoming high school students! Throughout November, the HDSB will host High School Information Nights to share insights into academic courses, extracurricular activities and pathways to post-secondary education. Join us November 7, 2024 to explore!
Senior students from the Drama, Art and Photography classes went to Wonderland on October 25. ADS alumni Kailey Graham lead students on a tour of the Halloween Haunt mazes explaining the design and build processes. Students were given the opportunity to see the mazes with and without the special effects-exploring how different technical choices created unique and creepy environments . Kailey answered many questions and discussed job opportunities as a performer and backstage. A spooktacular time was had by all!
Spirit Week!
Our Bearcats were amazing at participating in the various spirit days that Student Council had planned for us. Here are just a few photos of the fun!
Intermediate Funfair and Dance
Grade 7&8 Student Leaders organized a Fun Fair and Dance for Halloween. There were many games to play such as Pin the Eye on the Zombie, Pick a Trick or Treat and Guess the Teacher. Students also had a chance to show off their dance moves to a wonderful playlist curated by Mr. Landry and Mr. Bloemendal. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed an afternoon of fun!
Intermediate Robotics Club
The VEX IQ Intermediate Robotics Club is busy preparing for our first tournament of the season right here at Acton District School on Thursday, Dec.12th!
Our Library is looking for BOOK donations. Do you have books that are taking up space and that you would like to donate to a good cause? We are looking for books for ALL ages for our Library and to sell at this year's Holiday Craft Sale in November. Money raised will be used to support events in our school and for donation to The Downie Wenjack Foundation. Please bring your gently used books to the school and drop off in the wood bin in our front foyer. Your generosity is much appreciated.
November 3 to 9 is Treaties Recognition Week.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission states that, “Too many Canadians still do not know the history of Indigenous peoples’ contributions to Canada, or understand that by virtue of the historical and modern Treaties negotiated by our government, we are all Treaty people. History plays an important role in reconciliation; to build for the future, Canadians must look to, and learn from, the past.”
Relay for life:
This year, our first year we surpassed our goal of $7, 500 by raising $13, 000!! A collective effort between Acton Adventurers, student council and many individual classes. please see attached letter from the cancer society congratulating us on our efforts!
Lights, stage, action—it’s your time to shine!
Did you know that right here in Georgetown, there's a thriving community theatre that's been bringing stories to life for over 60 years? Georgetown Community Theatre is not only a hub for local productions but also home to an incredible Youth Company. We produce five exciting shows every year—three driven by our community and two by our talented youth!
We are always on the lookout for energetic, creative individuals like YOU to help make our productions unforgettable. Whether you're interested in acting, directing, building sets, painting, costumes, writing, make-up, or working as stage managers and technicians for lights and sound, there’s a place for everyone!
No experience? No problem! All roles are supervised and offer hands-on learning. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your skills, gain real-world experience, meet some new friends and have a blast while doing it. Plus, if you're a student, your hours with us will count toward your community volunteer hours!
We’d love to hear from you, and to join our growing theatre family!
